Upgrade slow laptop in Norwich with new SSD … this is another upgrade story!
Most people only call me when their computer is “driving them mad”
This laptop was a classic example. It belonged to a customer in Norwich who was ready to bin it and buy new. It took minutes to open a document, the fan was constantly spinning and even simple browsing felt painful.
When they dropped it off, we did what we always do – a proper inspection and diagnostic, not guesswork. In this case the main issues were:
- An ageing mechanical hard drive
- Years of Windows updates and software clutter
- Dust build-up inside the machine
Instead of pushing them towards a new laptop, we recommended:
- An SSD upgrade – replacing the old hard drive with a fast solid state drive
- Windows migration and optimisation – no data ;loss
- Internal clean and service to help with heat and noise
The result? The same laptop now boots in seconds, opens apps quickly and actually feels better than when it was new.
If your own PC or Mac is getting painfully slow, it doesn’t automatically mean you need to spend hundreds on a new machine. Often, a well-planned upgrade and service is all it takes.

And if you’d rather skip the guesswork, just get in touch via the contact page and tell me what your machine is doing (or not doing). We’ll inspect it, advise you clearly and only go ahead with what you approve – no surprises, ever.
Is an SSD upgrade the right move for your laptop?
Not every slow laptop needs replacing. In many cases the processor, memory and screen are still absolutely fine – it’s the old hard drive and years of clutter that cause the problems.
Here are a few signs an SSD upgrade is likely to help:
- The laptop takes a long time to start up, even after a fresh restart
- Opening everyday apps like your browser, email or Office takes ages
- You hear the hard drive chattering away even when you’re not doing much
- The machine is only a few years old but already feels “tired”
When you bring a slow laptop to me in Norwich, the process is straightforward:
- I run a proper diagnostic to check the health of the existing drive and other components.
- We have a clear chat about how you use the machine and what you actually need from it.
- I give you an honest recommendation – sometimes that means an SSD upgrade, sometimes a simple clean-up, and occasionally I’ll tell you it’s not worth spending money on.
- If you decide to go ahead with the upgrade, your data is cloned or backed up first so you don’t lose documents, photos or settings.
You end up with the same familiar laptop, but much faster and far more pleasant to use, without the cost and hassle of moving everything to a brand-new machine.
